From the month of Jan, there is a bridge work started near Sutarwadi on Mumbai Bangalore highway. As usual, the authorities created a small diversion and pushes all vehicles to pass through that. Highway is 3 lane whereas diversion is 2 lane or even less than that. Everyday there used to be huge traffic jam at that location during morning and especially in the evening hours. The people from Hanjwadi, Baner and Mumbai creates lot of traffic between 6pm to 10pm. Everybody is in a hurry and want to go home.
I am also one of the affected members. With this, I started talking to highway police. They diverted to Pune Police. They pushed me to PCMC police and finally they asked me to talk to National highway authority people. It took a while for identification of right agency and right people but finally I reached to the right person. He also took his own sweat time to get convinced but I keep on pushing for solution. Finally yesterday they agreed for trial at the location.
I simply asked them to reduce the angle of conversation of 3 lanes to 2 lanes by putting barricades and pushed last lane vehicles to the middle lanes.
Interestingly, we could see some improvement. Though the traffic was slow, it was moving unlike complete vault. I was at that location for while and took promise them to follow the same practice till the work gets completed. Here are some of the photos at the location...
Let us hope, the authorities will continue to use my idea which will help thousands of people coming in the evening....
